Narrative Description: Architectural Style And Key Stylistic Elements: Vernacular single-story gable front cottage, built in porch, returned eaves Physical Description: 31x23 core, 8x30 porch, shed roof rear porch, front porch of brick, stone foundation Alterations: Decks connect from second floor rear to alley behind the house at grade level, aluminum siding, porch built in. Building Permit Cards: 1996-re-sided Outbuildings: Hip roof garage, 1940, 10x18 Landscaping Notes: High bluff setting, access via alley from Summit to west, concrete steps to West 3rd closed off, fronts south. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: John S. and Annie Ryan are the first listing (163) in 1901. He works for A. A. Cooper James J. and Annie O'Donnell (he is a laborer) are listed at 163 West 3rd 1902-03. Thomas J. Reynolds is listed at 163 West 3rd 1896-1913, and then is not listed through 1918. He is then again listed at 567 West 3rd in 1921. 163 West 3rd is listed as vacant 1916 and housing Carl Ludowitz in 1918-who appears at 595 in 1921. Either the entries are in error and Reynolds builds and occupies the cottage 1896-1921 + or a different cottage was built c.1918 and Reynolds first occupied it. City Directory Notes: Thos. Reynolds, 1896-1913 and 1921, he is not listed 1918 so could have moved. Historical Image Notes: The 1909 Sanborn map shows a with full-width front porch (163 West 3rd). There was a shed in the northwest corner of the lot. The 1909/36 Sanborn map shows the same.
