Architectural Style And Key Stylistic Elements:
Originally an Italianate style two-story frame gable front, Tudor “catslide” like front profile due to lower
and longer left hand roof pitch, polychrome brick, south rear shed roof wing, no lintels visible
Physical Description:
58x41 core, 8x26 offset porch, no clue as to original appearance of core, brick veneered porch on
frame building, Craftsman style upper window sash-
Alterations:
Brick built in front porch, asphalt shingle exterior
Outbuildings:
Attached 4-car garage with shed roof against east rear wall
Landscaping Notes:
High stone retaining wall to north, drive to north

Historical Notes:
Nothing about this house dates it to the 1856 claimed date and it does not appear on the 1872
panoramic view, at least in this form. A square-plan Italianate house is indicated.

Historical Image Notes:
1872 Bird’s Eye view shows no house.
1909 Sanborn shows a rectangular front core with three-story tower or cupola and a wrap-around porch
on three sides, a 1.5-story rear wing, south side porch, an attached elongated carriage shed and a
carriage house attached to the north. There is a long single-story north addition and the yard is open to
the south (152 Madison).
1909/36 Sanborn shows what appears to be a substantially enlarged rectangular plan, full-width front
porch, a south rear side wing and a rear attached garage. Labeled as flats.
