Narrative Description: Architectural Style And Key Stylistic Elements: Italianate style, brick, rounded stone lintels, side gable roof portico, T-plan, side hall (left) plan. Physical Description: 31x21 core, rear wing (15x15, centered), rowlock brick basement window arches, twin round attic lights (very unusual), brown brick, same brick on side wing, two-piece semi-curved stone lintels set over window sets, stone foundation Alterations: Newer rear brick wing, new gable roof porch, was double entry now reduced), window replacements on west wing. Building Permits: 1969-porch repair 1982-remodel $2,000 Outbuildings: None Landscaping Notes: Ground drops to north, fronts north. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Historical Notes: Timothy O. Sullivan builds double brick on Seminary Hill, $3,000 (Herald, Dec. 20, 1883). T. O. Sullivan owns property when sewered in 1910. Sewer Records: 1910 sewer records show owner as T.O. Sullivan Owners state that Richard and Elizabeth Cox bought house c.1878, and sold to Kearns 1909 who own till 1960 (Dubuque Fest Annual House Tour, May 21-22, 1994). Cox not found, Kearns listed 1911. City Directory Notes: As 294 Seminary? Timothy O. and Amelia Sullivan first listed 1878 as living on south side of Seminary and then on the southwest corner of Seminary and Main, was City Assessor, same 1883 (294), last listed at 294 in 1886, then listed at 291 Seminary 1888-99 (Duggan, Sullivan & Kinsella, hardware dealers). John T. and Agnes Kearns, 1918-21, Secretary/Treasuer Conlin & Kearns Co. Mary Kearns, 1955, always in family.
