PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
Tuesday, June 14,2005
4:30 p.m., Snack Bar, Bunker Hill Golf Course '
Tom Blocklinger, Kim Daykin, Chuck Duggan, Gary Harjehausen, Paul
Hoffmann, Karen Lyness and Tom Schrobilgen
Staff present: GiI Spence, Pat Prevenas and Eileen Trimble
It was moved by Hoffmann, seconded by Duggan, to approve the minutes of
the May 10, meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
Recreation Division Manager Pat Prevenas explained that the department has
three table top electronic scoreboards that various groups or schools are
requesting to borrow for special athletic events. We have allowed these
organizations to borrow the scoreboards at no charge but we are now
proposing that we charge a rental fee and deposit. The revenue generated
may only amount to $500 annually for the adult athletics activity, but we believe
this expensive piece of equipment should generate some revenue and also
require a deposit. Commissioner Duggan asked if the renter would sign an
agreement with stipulations about paying for any damage done while being
rented; Mr. Prevenas will develop such an agreement.
11 was moved ~ Hoffmann. seconded ~ Lvness. to approve the rental fee and
deposit for table top electronic scoreboards, as proposed ~ staff. The motion
passed unanimouslv.
Leisure Services Manager Gil Spence told commissioners that he checked with
the City Manager and he agrees with the current policy that only the pro,
assistant pro and superintendent should be allowed to golf free. Mr. Spence
said if commissioners wanted to change the policy they could take action and it
would go to City Council. After discussion, no motion was made; no action
taken.
Mr. Spence informed commissioners that he visited the site with the City
Manager and he supports the sale, but wants to check on having two or three
lots, not just one. This will be a step-by-step process. We need to get an
appraisal done, and then interested people would make an offer, then there
would have to be a public hearing. The area is not zoned for residential, so the
Zoning Commission would have to be involved. Commissioners will be kept
informed.
In the absence of Park Division Manager John Hail, Mr. Spence shared the
following information:
· Harvest View Park is under construction; · contracts have been awarded for
Water Works Park, Pyatigorsk Park and Gateway projects; . contracts will be
awarded at next City Council meeting for Bergfeld; . bids have been initiated
for tennis court/skate park project at Comiskey; . campground revenue is
doing really well.
