Van Milligen, City Manager From: Tim Horsfield, Parking Division Manager Subject: 4t" Street Ramp Re- Naming Parking Division 830 Bluff Street Dubuque, IA 52001 563- 589.4267 www.cityofdubuque.org/parking Introduction This memo will provide you with information regarding changing the name of what is currently known as the 4th Street Parking Ramp. Backround The 4tn Street Parking Ramp was brought into service in June of 2002. Since the opening of the ramp, we have had some difficulties getting people to park in the ramp during the evening and weekend hours and also the monthly occupancy has been irregular. The current rates for this ramp are $45.00 per month and the hourly rates are $1.00 for the first hour and $.50 for each additional hour with a daily maximum of $6.00 along with a lost entrance ticket fee of $6.00. Discussion In the FY 2012 Budget, $60,000 is allocated for signage for each of the parking ramps. As you know, if someone refers to the Iowa Street Ramp, there are now 4 of them on Iowa Street. I am recommending that we change the name of the 4t" Street Parking Ramp to the Five Flags Ramp. We feel that this will give some association between the ramp and Five Flags where we can potentially capitalize on events being held by associating that parking is available in the Five Flags Ramp. There will be that word association when attending events at that venue. We would also work with Five Flags staff to market the usage of this ramp for their events. In conjunction with this recommended change, we are proposing that additional signage be place at the entrance at 4t" and Iowa which would be a sign indicating "PARKING" that would extend out vertically on the side of the ramp so as to be easily seen from 4t" Street. Subsequent to our meeting on Monday March 5t ", I will be contacting Lange Sign to proceed with the planning for the above mentioned changes. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact me at your convenience. 1 Cc: Dave Heiar, Economic Development Director Laura Carstens, Planning Services Manager 2
