Library Board of Trustees Update

Present: Paula Connors, President; Mike Willis, Vice President; Frederick
Miller, Secretary; Trustees, John Anderson - Bricker, Diann Guns, and Jenny

Absent: David Hammer
• The Board of Trustees held a news conference to announce a bequest of
$1,060,000 from James Mutschler. The funds have been targeted to use
for expansion of library services.
• 67 percent of the fiscal lapsed at the end of February and expenditures
were at 68 percent. Revenue is at 71 percent of projected income.
• Circulation was up 11 percent in February, although the number of visits
was down 1 percent.
• Reference questions remain a high - growth area — up 45 percent — in
February. Many questions are being asked at the Recommendations
Desk.
• The background of digital media — ebooks and audiobooks — was provided
to the Board and how the budget has been funded so far.
• The Board reviewed four designs for exterior signs prepared by Lange
Sign with the associated costs. The Board voted to keep the existing
signs, but repaint them to a color more compatible with the limestone of
the building. The Board felt the costs for other changes were too high.
• The Board reviewed the cost for security of materials.
• The Board voted to approve a new meeting room policy.
• The Board voted to approve a new patron Internet use policy.
• The Board tabled the Fine Arts Policy until next month.
