Dear City Council:
On behalf of John Burgart, Superintendent of Schools and Dr. Donna Loewen, Lincoln
Elementary School Principal, I would like to request that the west side of Nevada Street
be changed to no parking from the north end of Lincoln's property line to West 5th
Street. Our request is for Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., beginning
August 26, 2005 (the first day of school).
Parking on both sides of Nevada Street essentially creates one lane of traffic on a two-
way street. Traffic traveling in two directions causes drivers to pull over (if a space is
available) to allow oncoming traffic to pass safely. One lane of traffic is especially
difficult during arrival and dismissal times. Lincoln Elementary has approximately 400
students. We also have difficulty with our school buses navigating the congestion.
Changing Nevada Street to no parking on one side of the street would be similar to
parallel streets near Lincoln Elementary School. Alpine and Booth Streets both have
parking on only one side.
Please E-mail, FAX or telephone if you have any comments, concerns and/or questions.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
