-Mike:
Please ask your traffic control staff to examine the parking situation on Ida
Street between Delhi and Grace Sts.
.
The street is not wide enough to support parking on both sides as is
currently permitted. When classes are in session at the University the street is choked
with cars making it almost impossible for the average car to get through and definitely
impossible for an emergency vehicle to make passage.
I suggest that parking be allowed only on one side of the street, so that
traffic could be accommodated.
Thank you for your attention to this problem.
Sincerely,
~
Robert C. Sullivan

CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA
MEMORANDUM
February 22, 1999
TO: Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager
FROM: Michael A. Koch, Public Works Director /Ill f?cL-
SUBJECT: Ida Street - No Parking Petition
INTRODUCTION
The following is in response to an October 1 0, 1998 letter from Mr. Robert C. Sullivan
of 1790 Grace Street to examine the parking conditions on Ida Street between Grace
and Delhi Streets.
DISCUSSION
.
Ida Street is only 22 feet in width and currently parking is allowed on both sides of the
street. When vehicles are parked directly opposite each other, there is just barely
enough space for one lane of traffic to proceed. The Police and Fire Departments have
indicated their support for the removal of parking from one side of Ida Street between
Grace and Delhi Streets in the interest of public safety and emergency response.
Letters were sent to the four property owners who would be affected by this change
and received only one response. This person was concerned with his ability to enter
and exit his driveway onto Ida Street; however, this parking prohibition should not
affect his current access.
RECOMMENDA TION
I would then therefore recommend that parking be removed on the east side of Ida
Street from Grace to Delhi Streets as shown on the attached map.
ACTION TO BE TAKEN
The City Council is requested to adopted the attached ordinance providing for the
prohibition of parking on the east side of Ida Street from Grace to Delhi Street.
