Happy Thanksgiving to our business partners!
This season is an ideal time to give thanks to you, City of Dubuque, City Manager's Office, for
your partnership with Prescott School. The Dubuque Community School District's partnership
with local businesses has grown and now includes more than 50 businesses in such areas as
manufacturing, retail, financial, food, health, and publishing.
Several recent initiatives serve to underscore the importance of business to our schools. Last
January the district was awarded a two-year $200,000 School-To-Work grant. This grant is
designed to encourage students of all ages to explore what it takes to develop and maintain a
rewarding career. During the 1999-2000 school year, our Word of the Week program
concentrates on helping students connect school and career to work-related value words, like
partnership, career pathways, work ethic, and problem solving. In addition, we continue to work
closely with the Chamber of Commerce and Workforce Development by identifying the skills our
children will need as they enter the workforce after high school graduation.
As a business partner, you are an invaluable resource to our children and our neighborhood
schools, because you are their direct and positive link to the world of work. Your time and
commitment to our schools is a model for our children and perhaps their first introduction to work
and the skills they will need to compete in the 21 st century.
On behalf of our schools, I extend my sincere wishes for a happy Thanksgiving and wish you
every success as we approach the new millennium.
With regards,
~J. (---) ,
