CLAMATION
WHEREAS, since 1988 St. Mark Community Center has existed to work with the families of
Dubuque meet some of the unmet needs of their children; and
WHEREAS, St. Mark Community Center's Education Committee and Board is dedicated to
furthering the total learning experience of all children they work with; and
WHEREAS, St. Mark Community Center will again be doing the APPLES FOR STUDENTS
program in the Dubuque community during the months of June and July. This
program collects money to buy basic school supplies for children of families who
need help purchasing them. To date St. Mark Community Center has given out
more than 19,600 bags of school supplies; and
WHEREAS local schools and human service agencies help St. Mark Community Center
identify the 1,500 children who need school supplies this year, and
WHEREAS, St. Mark Community Center invites the people of Dubuque to donate money to
this program so school supplies can be purchased in bulk from local merchants
and serve more children than they usually do.
NOW THEREFORE, 1, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM THAT THE MONTHS OF JUNE AND JULY BE DESIGNATED FOR THE
COLLECTION OF MONEY TO BUY BASIC SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR NEEDY CHILDREN IN THE
CITY OF DUBUQUE AND URGE THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS
WORTHWHILE PROJECT BY SUPPORTING ST. MARK COMMUNITY CENTER IN ITS EFFORT
TOWARD HELPING THE CHILDREN OF OUR COMMUNITY.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my
hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of
Dubuque to be affixed this 4th day of June, 2012.
