ON
the city of Dubuque made history by recognizing LGBT (Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual, Transgender) Pride Month for the first time in 2011; and
the City of Dubuque is a progressive and inclusive community, which
celebrates culture and heritage and supports efforts to ensure that
everyone has the right to live in conditions of dignity, respect, and peace;
and
the City of Dubuque advocates for the elimination of all forms of
discrimination and displays commitment to the equal treatment of all
people; and
taunting, bullying, and intolerance directed to those who are gay or
"different" in some way is an issue in our society, and Dubuque strives to
offer our youth a safe place; and
this proclamation in and of itself sends a positive message of validation to
LGBT citizens of Dubuque that the City embraces LGBT individuals and
their families as part of the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, 1, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF, DUBUQUE 365, THE DUBUQUE CHAPTER OF
PFLAG, THE DUBUQUE FRIENDS WORSHIP GROUP, THE MIDWEST EQUALITY
COALITION, RAINBOW PRIDE, THE RIVERVIEW CENTER, SOUL HARBOR MINISTRIES,
THE UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST FELLOWSHIP OF DUBUQUE, AND CITIZENS OF
DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF JUNE 2012 AS
LGBT PRIDE MONTH
IN DUBUQUE AND CALL UPON THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE TO OBSERVE THIS
MONTH WITH APPROPRIATE PROGRAMS, ACTIVITIES, AND CEREMONIES IN
RECOGNITION OF OUR CITY'S DIVERSITY.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set
