Van Milligen, City Ma~a~.er Gus Psihoyos, City Engineer _~ TO: SUBJECT: Arboretum Entrance Road Construction Project (CIP NO.1 001559 - Marshall Park Entrance Road Reconstruction) INTRODUCTION The enclosed resolutions provide for the acceptance of the construction contract for the Arboretum Entrance Road Construction Project. BACKGROUND During the Northwest Arterial Phase 4 construction, the Arboretum Drive was not extended to connect with the Marshall Park entrance. Therefore, the Arboretum Entrance Road Construction Project provided for the construction of a new section of 37-foot wide street which included a 10-foot wide by 150-foot long landscape median, a cul-de-sac for turnaround purposes and the installation of historic lighting. To accommodate and address concerns from two (2) adjacent residential property owners during the project construction phase, the street was extended an additional ten (10) feet. The adjacent property owners agreed to incur this additional pavement cost in the amount of $1,500. DISCUSSION The Arboretum Entrance Road Construction Project has been completed by Portzen Construction, Inc. of Dubuque, Iowa, in the final contract amount of $105,814.49, which is a 1.7% decrease from the original contract in the amount of $107,601.00. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the City Council accept the improvements and establish the final contract at $105,814.49. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. The recommendation of the City Manager is approved and the Project is hereby accepted. Section 2. The City Treasurer is hereby directed to pay to the contractor from the Marshall Park Entrance Road Reconstruction Capital Improvement Project, General Fund appropriation in the contract amount of $122,475.15 less any retained percentage provided for therein as provided in Iowa Code chapter 573, and to pay such retainage only in accordance with the provisions of Iowa Code chapter 573. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. That the cost of said improvement is hereby determined to be $122,475.15 and the said amount shall be paid from the Marshall Park Entrance Road Reconstruction Capital Improvement Project, General Fund appropriation of the City of Dubuque, Iowa.
