SUBJECT: Commission Priority List for Consideration at Goal Setting Session
DATE: June 1, 2012
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide the City Council with recommendations
from the Park and Recreation Advisory Commission on projects they feel should be
priorities for park facilities and areas.
BACKGROUND
At the March meeting, commissioners talked about making a list of Commission
priorities regarding department facilities and areas and presenting it to the City Council
for consideration during the annual goal setting session.
DISCUSSION
The regular Commission meeting for May consisted of a tour of different department
facilities and areas suggested by Commissioners at the previous meeting. After the tour
commissioners met and discussed different projects and issues they feel should be high
priority for the city.
After discussion, the following is the list compiled and voted on as priorities, not in any
particular order:
• More outdoor basketball courts in the next fiscal year
• Move the focus to upgrading parks and facilities in the south and west areas of
the city
• Become proactive and start identifying long term needs
• Continued improvements at Eagle Point Park
• Bee Branch
• Rest rooms in Jackson Park
• Parking lot for Usha Park and at least one paved sidewalk to get to and from
playground area
• Accessible walkway at Log Cabin Pavilion in Eagle Point Park
• Skate park in the west side of town
• Keep parks upgraded and current and make sure kids have the right facilities
• Continued development at Comiskey Park
• General compliance with ADA requirements in parks
• One or two multi -use green spaces (100 x 150) for rugby, soccer, football or
lacrosse
ACTION STEP
The action requested is that the City Council consider the priorities recommended by
the Park and Recreation Advisory Commission as they set goals and priorities for the
upcoming year during their annual goal setting.
