MEMORANDUM
September 9,2005
FROM:
Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager _c_
Gus Psihoyos, Cijy Engineer _ ~K.?
TO:
SUBJECT: Permanent Traffic Signal Removal at 15th and Jackson Streets
BACKGROUND
In 1977, a traffic signal was installed to replace outdated school crossing
equipment for St. Mary's School. Since that time, St. Mary's School has closed,
and traffic patterns have changed in the surrounding area.
DISCUSSION
During the spring of 2003, the traffic signals at 15th and Jackson Streets were
placed in the flash mode (red flash for 15th Street and yellow flash for Jackson
Street).
RECOMMENDATION
Due to the traffic pattern changes, it is recommended that the City permanently
remove the signals at the intersection of 15th and Jackson Streets. Stop signs
will be installed on 15th Street as soon as the signals are removed as part of the
Through Street Stop Sign Ordinance.
