Minutes Five Flags Civic Ctr. 8 15 05 Five Flags Commission Meeting August 15, 2005 PRESENT: CYNTHIA FULLER, MARK NAUMAN, ROD BAKKE, BRYCE PARKS, MIKE BRANNON STAFF PRESENT: GENERAL MANAGER CHARLIE GARDNER, PEGGY DEGNAN The Commission meeting convened at 4:35 P.M. in the Five Flags Theater Lobby. Chairperson Cynthia Fuller presided. Approval of Minutes: Mike Brannon moved to approve the July 18, 2005 Five Flags Commission Minutes. Seconded by Rod Bakke. Motion carried 5-0. Manager's Activity Report: Manager Gardner presented the commissioners with an update of the dealings at the Five Flags Center. Facility Overview: New Bookinqs: JoDee Messina/Sugarland on Nov. 3rd (on sale 9/17). Put an offer in on Kenny Rogers Xmas Show. Globetrotters on Dec. 29th and possible Bul/ride in January. Charlie working on rock show, Breaking Benjamin.... Facilitv Re~ Alyson Tasker has been hired as Box Officer Manager and started August 15t . Box Office Hours have been determined. They are as follows: Monday _ Friday, 9:30am - 5:30pm; Non-event Saturdays: noon - 4:pm. Closed Sundays but open at noon on event days. An additional four air conditioning units are being installed this year. Financial Report: There were no financial reports available for the month of July. This will begin in September. Old Business: Soft Drink Contract - Charlie explained we are staying with Pepsi because current Pepsi contract runs through 2005-2006 season. He said Pepsi has agreed to a signing bonus, to purchase more sign age and they would consider offering more incentives if we did more business with them, but Five Flags only spent $9200.00 with them last year. Siqnaqe in Promenade: Received quotes from Lang and Dubuque Sign. Charlie explained the history of how previous signage was sold. He plans to charge $4000.00/yr. for Promenade signage and initiate contracts. He is starting with 15 signs. Page 1 of 2 New Business: Outdoor advertisinq - Charlie stated that per The City, we are allowed to sell outdoor advertising if we do business with that company. There are no restrictions for signage on the outside of the building with the exception of not in front of the historic theater in order to coincide with the Lower Main Historic District. This district measures up to the corner of 4th and Main including Five Flag's Theater, but not the Arena. Charlie discussed the lack of building identity when looking south from Upper Main. He suggested the possibility of college art classes painting murals on the north panels on the north side of the building. He stated we may use our marquee for advertising as well. (Side note made by Charlie: Naming rights in the Telegraph Herald were out of line.) Renovation Update: Renovation is running behind. Completion date has been pushed back to September ih. Peggy is working on Grand Opening plans for a Public Open House and/or Reception for clients/vendors. With no further business to discuss, Cindy Fuller moved to adjourn, Mark Nauman seconded.
