PRESENT: ABSENT: OTHERS: MINUTES APPROVED; VOTE: UPDATE ON PET PARK; PET PARK RULES; VOTE: UPDATE ON SALE OF SOUTHERN AVENUE PROPERTY: RECREATION DIVISION REPORT: PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING Tuesday, September 13, 2005 4:30 p.m., Snack Bar, Bunker Hill Golf Course Tom Blocklinger, Kim Daykin, Chuck Duggan, and Evelyn Nadeau Gary Harjehausen, Paul Hoffmann and Karen Lyness Staff present: John Hail and Eileen Trimble It was moved by Blocklinger, seconded by Duggan, to approve the minutes of the August 9, 2005 meeting. The motion passed unanimously. Park Division Manager John Hail updated commissioners on the status of the Pet Park: · drinking fountain is installed and functional; · the areas has been seeded; · concrete work is done; · fencing should be done soon; · there will be separate areas for smaller/larger dogs; · pet waste bags have been ordered and they will be available in the park. The rules for the park were modeled after rules used for pet parks in Chicago. We had the animal warden review the list. A copy of the proposed park rules may be found as part of the original minutes. tl was moved Qy Davkin. seconded Qy DUQQan. to approve the Pet Park Rules as presented Qy staff. The motion passed unanimouslv. The proposed sale of the property on Southern Avenue is currently on hold, waiting on word from lOOT. A letter was found from when the state sold the property to the City, and it stated that the City could not re-sell the land. Leisure Services Manager Gil Spence has sent a letter to lOOT to see if that policy is still in effect. Recreation Division Manager Pat Prevenas was not in attendance, but left a printed report to be distributed to commissioners. A copy of the report may be found as part of the original minutes; it shared the following information: · Sutton Pool attendance for the season was 43,325, highest in fourteen years; Flora Pool had 81,473, third highest in fourteen years; Flora was closed for three days late in August due to recirculation pump bearing failure; Doggie Dip nights were successful - Sutton had 150 dogs, Flora 250. · Golf rounds for August were up 1 % from last year, season rounds were down 1 % from last year; paid rounds for the season through August compared to last year - weekend up 11 %, weekend 9-hole up 19%, weekday 9-hole up 28% and weekday up 1 %. continued PARK DIVISION REPORT: ADJOURN; VOTE: September 13, 2005 meeting page two Park Division Manager John Hail shared the following information: . playground equipment at McAleece has been installed; area will now be seeded; . Downtown Neighborhood Association obtained a grant for new benches and trash receptacles in Jackson Park; · work at Bergfeld Recreation Area is going well; our crews should be installing a playground unit next week; . workers started removing old concrete at Comiskey Park - one tennis court and one small skate park will be replacing the old tennis courts;. electricity will be added to thirty more campsites at Miller-Riverview Park; over $60,000 in camping fees were collected this past fiscal year; · work at Washington Park was completed in time for last weekend's craft show, but the ground area was mostly dirt, not much grass; bales of straw were put at the area for the crafters to spread around in case of rain, and Donna Ginter took a group of people to the park on Sunday night to clean up all the straw.
