Whereas,
our nation's greatest promise has always been the chance to build a
better life; and
Whereas,
for America's working families throughout our history, owning a home
has come to symbolize the American Dream; and
Whereas,
expanding homeownership will strengthen our nation's families and
communities, strengthen our economy, and expand America's middle
class, and will prepare our nation to embrace the rich possibilities of
the twenty-first century; and
Whereas,
homeownership has been enhanced by a growing economy and
stable, affordable interest rates, and by the work of Dubuque area
community organizations in partnership with the public and private
sector.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, DO
HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF JUNE 5-12, 1999 AS:
"
IN DUBUQUE, AND ALL CITIZENS, PRIVATE INDUSTRY, COMMUNITY GROUPS
AND FEDERAL, STATE AND CITY GOVERNMENT ARE ENCOURAGED TO WORK
AS PARTNERS TO MAKE THE DREAM OF HOMEOWNERSHIP A REALITY FOR
HARD-WORKING IOWANS AND A BETTER FUTURE FOR ALL AMERICANS.
