Citizen Correspondence_Nyheim Letter re Pool Concession StandsJuly 3, 2012 Mayor Roy Buol City Hall, 50 W. 13th Street Dubuque, Iowa 52001 City Manager Mike Van Milligan City Hall, 50 W. 13th Street Dubuque, Iowa 52001 Health Inspector for City of Dubuque City Hall, 50 W. 13th Street Dubuque, Iowa 52001 City Council City Hall, 50 W. 13th Street Dubuque, Iowa 52001 RE: Concession Stand Health Concerns After personally given 7 years of faithful service in the concession stands of Sutton and Flora Pools working for minimum wage, I, and several other employees have collectively resigned due to unhealthy working conditions. A thermometer recently placed in the concession stand at Sutton Pool recorded a temperature of 130° and it is even hotter than that at Flora due to the enormous refrigeration units inside the building (which, I might add, are being used for other business ventures at the city's expense). There are no vents on the roof to let out the hot air and no portable fans allowed. Last week employees were dropping like flies, leaving early with signs of heatstroke and diarrhea. Our repeated pleas to our employer, (Paul Connors of Choo Choo Charlie Concessions- a free agent who contracts with the city) have fallen on deaf ears and now after resigning due to personal health fears, our paychecks are being withheld. Sincerely, rx-uzZaz Barbara Nyheim 1798 Washington Court Apt. #308 Dubuque, Iowa 52001 563- 451 -5643
