Proclamation Medicare & You
WHEREAS, quality health insurance is vitally important to the well-being of a
community and all of its citizens; particularly it’s elderly and
disabled members; and
WHEREAS, the federal Medicare health insurance program has provided a
necessary safety net to those who rely upon it for access to critical
health care services for over forty years; and
WHEREAS, the Medicare program protects the health and well-being of
thousands of people in Dubuque and ensures that older adults and
people with disabilities continue to be vibrant members in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, for the first time, starting January 1, 2006, Medicare will offer
prescription drug coverage and everyone on Medicare is eligible for
this coverage.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF

DUBUQUE, IOWA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM NOVEMBER 9 AND 10, 2005 AS:
“MEDICARE AND YOU” DAYS
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, AND ENCOURAGE THIS COMMUNITY TO BECOME
INVOLVED IN ASSURING THAT PEOPLE ELIGIBLE FOR MEDICARE IN OUR
COMMUNITY TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF THE BENEFITS AVAILABLE TO THEM
THROUGH THE MEDICARE PROGRAM.
