Human Rights Com.,Oswald resign
Kelly Larson,
It has been nearly four years since I attended my first meeting
with The Dubuque Human Rights Commission. During this time I
have been Blessed with being able to call people like you friend.
Your insight and true passion toward working to eliminate
discrimination while promoting the quality of life for every
resident in the city of Dubuque has been nothing short of
inspirational.
At our last Dubuque Human Rights Commission meeting,
four of five attending commissioners voted to accept the four
proposed goals that would carry our battle into the year 2006. It
was my hope to change "In order to advocate for the underserved
gay and lesbian community, continue to education Dubuque
residents about various sexual orientations," to read "Advocate for
the underserved community while educating Dubuque residents
about various sexual orientations". I cannot support this goal as
worded, therefore I have chosen to resign my commission effective
immediately.
There is nothing more that I feel more strongly about than
our need as a community to better educate our citizens on
diversity. Please know that I am proud to have had the opportunity
to learn more about Dubuque and our citizens through the superb
and truly professional work of you and your staff I recommend
Mary Gassman as my replacement and hope you understand my
position.
Sincerely yours,
Lou Oswald
