Narrative Description: This property is located in the Jackson Park Historic District. Style/Year: 1847, Assessor estimates 1876, pre-1889, Italianate style two-story side gable brick duplex with twin bays and centered entrances, elongated lower windows. Physical Description: T-plan with 35x43 rectangular front core, centered 40'6"x32 rear wing, enclosed rear porch on 1255, single-story brick north side wing (24x12) on 1257, porch 6x16), raised stone foundation and water table, eayes extend beyond end walls, end wall chimneys, basement windows haye separate stone lintels set beneath the water table, unusual elongated rounded stone lintels haye sill caps and separate square spring stones. The same lintels are employed on the entries. Paired brackets support the cornice. Two central upper leyel windows were originally doors and accessed the front porch. Massive brackets support the flat roof porch that infills the gap between the flanking bays. Bay roofs are yery low profile, virtually flat-topped which is unusual. Twin centered rear two-story wing. Alterations: post-1909 single-story north side wing, parapet front. Permits note re-roofing in 1932, 1952 (part), 1956 (part), 1974-75, open porches repair 1953 (1255), replace old porch with 6x22 wood porch on office/apartment building 1987, repair fascia, re-roof porch and repair porch decking 1987, re-roof front office porch 1992, install handicap ramp to office 1993. Landscaping/Setting: leyel parcel, duplex fronts east. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Special Significance; built as manse for Westminster Presbyterian Church (Grannis). Original Owner/Builder: Albert W. Hosford built a double brick residence and stable in 1878, the cost being $6,800. His residence as of 1880 was 1257 Locust and it is probable that he built the duplex and occupied the north half (Herald, January 3, 1879). Building History: The Second Presbyterian Church, Thomas Hardie, Mary Westphal owned the parcel when it was sewered. Gertrude Starbuck resides in 1255 as of 1955, states family purchased same in 1895. 9.
