WHEREAS, Civic Awareness Month occurs in September and reminds us of the
importance of an educated and engaged citizenry; and
WHEREAS, "awareness" implies an understanding of the diverse issues affecting
civic life that enables the type of civic discourse that solves problems;
and
WHEREAS, the ability of citizens to participate in solving problems depends upon
an understanding of the complex and difficult issues facing our
communities and their leaders. If citizens participate in solving
problems at the local level, they can regain a sense of stability and
trust in the process of good government; and
WHEREAS, for local governments and their citizens, an educated and engaged
citizenry is their most valuable asset.
NOW THEREFORE, 1, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER 2072 AS
"CIVIC AWARENESS MONTH"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set

City of Dubuque to be affixed this 20t" day
