Nash, who replaces David Harris after his retirement on July 3 after 25 years with the City of Dubuque, will begin his employment with the City by Aug. 1, 2012. "Alvin Nash brings to the position the kind of work experience and attitude I was looking for in the newest member of the department manager team," said Van Milligen. "I believe he will carry on the type of innovation, customer service, and partnerships that this community expects and deserves." As housing and community development director, Nash will be responsible for the management of Dubuque's housing code inspection, rental housing licensing, federally assisted housing, housing rehabilitation, housing relocation, lead paint hazard reduction, community development/Community Development Block Grant, Family Self- Sufficiency, Green and Healthy Homes, Bridges Initiative, and home purchase programs. Nash has 23 years of experience in construction, weatherization, and managing housing programs. From 1997 to 2012, he served as president and CEO of Blue Ridge Housing Corporation in Roanoke, Virg. This non - profit corporation focused on first -time home buyers, neighborhood revitalization, and consumer education. Blue Ridge built and rehabilitated nearly 150 houses since 1997. Nash also served as the president and CEO of CBSF Inc. for the past four years where he provided consulting services for housing and community development projects. From 1987 to 2004, Nash was the director of housing programs for Total Action Against Poverty (TAP) in Roanoke. He was responsible for the weatherization program, managing the Roanoke County Section 8 Program, HUD counseling programs, emergency home repair program, and mortgage and rental assistance program. His professional experience includes serving as a group facilitator for Family Services of Roanoke Valley (1985- 2002), deputy director of TAP (1991- 1997), director of the Southwest Virginia Community Food Bank (1982- 1986), and director of youth services for TAP (1978- 1979). Nash's civic and community involvement includes serving on the Roanoke City Council, Roanoke City School Board, Roanoke City Economic Development Commission, Roanoke Regional Housing Network, 19th & Melrose Corporation, American Cancer Society, New Century Council Housing Association, and the Pine Valley Golf Association. # # #
