Re: Safety of our tenants and all people crossing at the intersection of Locust and
Sixth street.
DEMOGRAPHICS:
82 tenants
14 tenants between 90 and 98 years of age
24 tenants between 80 and 90 years of age
30 tenants on either a cane, walker or in a wheelcbair
REQUEST: A push button pedestrian cross ligbt at the intersection of Locust and
Sixth street or at least a crosswalk.
DANGERS TO OUR TENANTS:
Traffic on Locust Street is moving 25 - 30 miles an hour between the Post Office
and Washington Park on one side and the Eeumllnical Tower and the US Bank on
the other side. There is no safe area to cross tbe street.
Presently, tenants are walking a block North and then a block South to get to the
Post Office of Washington Park across the street! The other alternative is to walk a
block South and then a block North to get to either the Post Office or Washington
Park. The procedure is repeated to get back home.
How would you like your 80 to 98 year old mother or father having to do this any
time. let alone in the winter"
As for all other persons they take their chances crossing traffic to get to the Post
Office or to the Park for festivals, remembrance services ete. During festivals from
May through September this intersection is especially dangerous for elderly and
challenged people. .
