Discussion was held on Section 404.14 of NFPA 70 National Electrical Code.
Tom Reed gave out copies of the sections of the code and Pictures that were taken of recent installs
of disconnects on split system condensers and heat pumps. Tom Reed stated that the pictures were
taken of several jobs but that all at once most electricians were mounting disconnects to appliances,
he further stated that he had not seen that in his 11 years in this position. Corey Valaskey asked why
we were discussing this since it was an electrical code, several members stated that there were
multiple reasons. Safety for the service technician who will be servicing appliances and equipment in
all weather, efficiency of the unit and clearances required by the manufacturer were some issues.
Tom Reed also referred to section 306.5.2 which requires a receptacle outlet be provided at or near
the appliance location, the code further states the reason for this section to negate the need for
extension cords, which can be hazardous to service personnel.
Dave Grothe made a motion to have a joint meeting with the Electrical Board to discuss these issues.
Mike Kelly seconded. 4 yea Corey Valskey abstained.
Dave Grothe made a motion to adjourn, Mike Kelly seconded. 5 Yea 0 Nay.
Approved this day of 12012.
