WHEREAS, law enforcement in Dubuque began with the appointment of the first
marshal and collector of fees in April 1837; and
WHEREAS, law enforcement provides necessary services and protection to the
community; and
WHEREAS, the Dubuque Police Department strives to adhere to the principles of
integrity, compassion, competence, and open minds; and
WHEREAS, the Dubuque Police Department continues its tradition of professionalism
by maintaining accredited status through the Commission on
Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, requiring compliance with
over 400 standards, a status bestowed on only 601 agencies nationwide
and just 7 others in Iowa; and
WHEREAS the Dubuque Police Department is celebrating its 175t" anniversary this
year by holding a public open house, including a historical memorabilia
display and a restored 1948 Chevy Stylemaster patrol car, at the Grand
River Center on September 29t" from noon to 4:00 p.m.
NOW THEREFORE, 1, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 23 -29, 2012 AS
"DUBUQUE POLICE DEPARTMENT 175T" ANNIVERSARY WEEK"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set
my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
City of Dubuque to be affixed this 17th day
of September, 2012.
