Van Milligen, City Manager FROM: Susan Henricks, Library Director~ SUBJECT: Carnegie-Stout Public Library Exterior Maintenance Project INTRODUCTION The enclosed resolutions provide for the acceptance of the construction contract for the Carnegie-Stout Public Library Exterior Maintenance Project. BACKGROUND The main project consisted of stone restoration work, including masonry tuckpointing and the replacement of damaged or deteriorated stone fac;:ade. Two bid alternatives were also performed: Alternative 1: restoration of exterior metal railing and lamp post; and Alternate 2: Cleaning of the exterior building masonry and the cleaning and recaulking of exterior windows. DISCUSSION The Carnegie-Stout Public Library Exterior Maintenance Project has been completed by Fred Jackson Tuckpointing Co. of Dubuque, Iowa, in the final contract amount of $80,733.00. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the City Council accept the improvements and establish the final contract at $80,733.00. BUDGET IMPACT The project cost summary for the Carnegie-Stout Public Library Exterior Maintenance Project is as follows: Total Project Cost Bid Award Final $80,733.00 $80,733.00 8,073.00 0 9,900.00 9,138.02 $98,706.00 $89,871.02 Construction Contract with Alternates 1 and 2 Contingency Professional Fees The project funding summary is as follows: CIPNo. 1001569 3501681 Fund Description Preservation of Original Carnegie Building Repair Sidewalk and Steps Fund Amount Total Project Funding $76,118.50 $13,752.52 $89,871.02 ACTION TO BE TAKEN The City Council is requested to adopt the attached resolutions accepting the improvement and establishing the final construction cost for the Carnegie-Stout Public Library Exterior Maintenance Project. cc: Dawn Lang, Budget Director RESOLUTION NO. 538-05 ACCEPTING THE CARNEGIE-STOUT PUBLIC LIBRARY EXTERIOR MAINTENANCE PROJECT Whereas, the contract for the Carnegie-Stout Public Library Exterior Maintenance Project (the Project) has been completed and the City Manager has examined the work and filed a certificate stating that the Project has been completed according to the terms of the contract, plans and specifications and that the City Manager recommends that the Project be accepted. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. The recommendation of the City Manager is approved and the Project is hereby accepted. Section 2. The City Treasurer is hereby directed to pay to the contractor from the Preservation of Original Carnegie Building CIP (1001569) and the Replace Sidewalk and Steps (3501681) for the contract amount in the amount of $80,733.00 less any retained percentage provided for therein as provided in Iowa Code chapter 573, and to pay such retainage only in accordance with the provisions of Iowa Code chapter 573. Schneider, CMC, City Clerk RESOLUTION NO. 539-05 FINAL ESTIMATE Whereas, the construction contract for the Carnegie-Stout Public Library Exterior Maintenance Project has been completed and the City Engineer has submitted his final estimate showing the cost thereof including the cost of estimates, notices and inspection and all miscellaneous costs. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. That the cost of said improvement is hereby determined to be $89,871.02 and the said amount shall be paid from the allocations from the Preservation of Original Carnegie Building Capital Improvement Project (CIP 1001569) and the Repair Sidewalk and Steps Capital Improvement Project (CIP 3501681 ).
