Cable TV Coordinator Craig Nowack is recommending approval of the Cable TV
Commission recommendations for funding from the Public, Educational, and
Government (PEG) Capital Grant for Access Equipment and Facilities up to $10,000 for
the City of Dubuque to purchase two tapeless solid-state video cameras to produce
programming for CityChannel Dubuque.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memorandum is to forward a recommendation from the Cable TV Commission for funding from the
Capital Grant for Access Equipment and Facilities.
BACKGROUND
The Capital Grant for Access Equipment and Facilities created by the cable franchise agreement that went into effect on
June 5, 2005, currently has a balance to be awarded of $273,122.
At its meeting on October 10, the Commission approved a request for funding from the City of Dubuque for up to $10,000 to
purchase two tapeless solid -state video cameras with which to produce programming for CityChannel Dubuque.
RECOMMENDATION
I respectfully request that the Commission's recommendation for this request be forwarded to the City Council to receive, file,
and approve. Thank you.

Provide a general description of what you are requesting and why:: We are requesting to Sony
HXR -NXSU camcorders with accessories. These cameras will give us a complement of three similar
cameras for program production.
Describe how the community will benefit from your request:: These cameras are tapeless and significantly
reduce the amount of time from shooting to editing by eliminating the need to transfer in reel time.
External memory units allow up to 11 hours of HD recording. Internal memory cards provide HD
recording backup or simultaneous SD recording. These cameras will replace a couple of the aging
cameras we now use as well as reduce the use of our aging external hard drive recorders. Having three
matching cameras will also eliminate sync issues we've experienced with ISO recordings of our
HXR-NX5U & external hard drives.
