PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, on Sunday, January 15, our community will celebrate the birthday of
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. beginning with a gathering at
Washington Park at 1:00 P.M. and a march to the Cathedral of St.
Raphael to witness the awards in the annual NAACP Tribute
Contest, take part in the annual commemoration of the Civil Rights
Movement, and hear featured speaker Nucleus Johnson perform
excerpts from Dr. King's speeches; and
WHEREAS, on Monday, January 16, the Fourteenth Annual Martin Luther King,
Jr. Birthday Breakfast will be held at the Grand River Center at 7:30
A.M. with Evelyne Jobe Villines addressing the theme" "Beyond
Black and White;" and
WHEREAS, Dr. King once said "Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to
the noble struggle for human rights. You will make a greater person
of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live
in."
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA,
DO HEREBY PROCLAIM JANUARY 15 AND 16, 2006 AS:
"DAYS OF GREAT CELEBRATION IN HONOR
OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING. JR."
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA AND URGE ALL CITIZENS TO JOIN IN
KEEPING HIS DREAM ALIVE BY JOINING IN THE CELEBRATIONS.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set
my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
City of Dubuque, Iowa to be affixed this 3'd
day of January, 2006.
