Welcome and best wishes for a rewarding and successful New Year as you dedicate your.
selves in serving the entire civic body. May you do so wisely and to the best of your
ability. Generally, Dubuque has been successful these past few years in projecting a
positive image while capitalizing on its great potential becoming more and more aware
of the same, especially in preserving its unique architecture. Hopefully this awareness
will continue as a guideline. Great mistakes can be made in making decisions too
hurriedly.
The Northeast side of Dubuque badly needs shopping facilities. I strongly believe that the
residents here would support facilities on the scale and model , e.g. such as Target,
Shopko, and even Sears. These would be non-competitive to those, I believe, on the
West side. I would like to see support for Mr. Briggs'plan to use the former meat packing
site for such. Also, the former H & W building - after feasible study - may have the
potential of becoming a mini-mall under one roof. [ Call it TWIN TOWERS PLAZA].
Many worthwhile creations developed from "dreams". Perhaps Mr. Spiegel could be
enticed to take on one of these suggestions.?!
In closing I wish to thank also, former Mayor Duggan, City Manager Mr. Van Milligan
and the council members for their dedicated service and for their remarkable
achievements these past recent years.
