SUBJECT: National Community Development Association Audrey Nelson Award
The National Community Development Association (NCDA) announced that the HEART
Partnership is the recipient of the 2006 Audrey Nelson Community Development
Achievement Award.
The award represents the culmination of a national competition to identify and recognize
exemplary uses of Community Development Block Grant funds which best address the
needs of low-income families and neighborhoods. The award recognizes the Four
Mounds Foundation and the HEART program for this outstanding partnership between
the Four Mounds Foundation, the Dubuque Community School District, Four Oaks Inc.
of Iowa, the City of Dubuque Housing and Community Development Department and a
local lender to purchase and rehabilitate derelict housing, provide an on-site job training
experience for special needs high school youth and sell completed homes to low-
income families.
Community Development Specialist Aggie Tauke will be attending the annual
conference in Washington, D.C., and will accept the award on January 25.
Congressman Jim Nussle, Senator Tom Harkin and Senator Chuck Grassley will also
be invited to attend.
