Ware, Leisure Services Manager SUBJECT: Bunker Hill Golf Course Outing Fee Recommendation DATE: November 13, 2012 INTRODUCTION Dubuque bierd All-America City 1 2007 The purpose of this memo is to request approval for changing fees for Bunker Hill Golf Course Outings. BACKGROUND Bunker Hill hosts many golf outings throughout a year. The last time fees and the policy was adjusted was back in 2005. Additionally, the fees are now at a rate lower than other area courses. We work to stay in line with other courses. DISCUSSION The current policy adopted in March, 2005 reads as follows: Golf outings may be scheduled on weekdays before noon throughout the season, and weekends after 1:00 pm and any time in September and October. Eighteen -hole rates for shotgun start during the above times include: 144 player minimum — league fee 120 player minimum — weekday 9 hole fee 100 player minimum — weekend 9 hole fee Less than 100 players — senior fee ($12.75) ($12.75) ($14.25) ($15.00) Requests for golf outings have become more numerous since 2005 and there is less competition between courses to attract outings so the reduced rates are unnecessary. We always work to have rates competitive with other courses. We also now have the ability to start outings earlier than 1:00 pm on weekends, because of fewer permanent tee times in the mornings, which provides us greater scheduling flexibility. The Park and Recreation Commission reviewed the fees below and recommends the following for the 2013 season: 120 player minimum — senior fee ($15.00) 80 player minimum — weekday 18 -hole fee ($19.00) Outings with less than 80 players that do not require a shotgun start will be negotiated individually via the golf pro with Leisure Services Department staff approval. This will bring our fees more in line with the fees of area courses. RECOMMENDATION Because we schedule outings throughout the winter, we request approval of the new outing rates shown above versus doing them as a part of the budget process. MLW:jlr 2
