RE: Update of the Comprehensive Plan
Dear Mayor and City Council Members:
The Long Range Planning Advisory Commission has the responsibility to provide a
leadership role in the planning, coordinating and sponsoring of a periodic community
planning process, and to coordinate and supervise the preparation and maintenance of the
Comprehensive Plan.
The Dubuque Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 1994 -1995. The Plan was last
updated in 2000 - 2002.
The Commission has prepared the enclosed schedule for the 2006 update of the
Comprehensive Plan. The update focuses on the Future Land Use Map and a review of
the goals and objectives for the 14 elements of the Plan. The update will use a variety of
opportunities for input from the general public and key stakeholders. The Dubuque Area
Chamber of Commerce has agreed to co-sponsor notification of events to their members.
The Commission appreciates the City Council's continued support for the Comprehensive
Plan and long range planning for our community. We invite City Council Members to attend
as many of the planning meetings as your schedules allow.
