Dear Jerry,
The City of Dubuque is pleased to work in partnership with the Dubuque County
Historical Society in its application to the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. The Old
Jail, the Ryan House, and the Mathias Ham House are architectural gems that the City
is most interested in preserving and utilizing in the quest to inform the residents of
Dubuque of its most precious resource-history.
By providing a site manager for these three locations, the Dubuque County Historical
Society will be able to better manage these sites. We are interested not only in the
Mathias Ham House which we lease to the Society, but also support your efforts at the
Old Jail and Ryan House.
The City of Dubuque and the Dubuque County Historical Society have a long history of
collaboration. It is our wish that this collaboration continue and grow. The successful
foundation built by our organizations will be strengthened by this new effort of the
Dubuque County Historical Society to improve its management of Dubuque's historical
and cultural treasures.
