Minutes Civil Service 1 26 06 CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION Date: Thursday, January 26, 2006 Time: 11:00 a.m. Place of Meeting: City Hall – Conference Room A Present: Chairperson Merle Duehr, Commissioner Kluesner, Commissioner Dick Wertzberger Also Present: Personnel Manager Randy Peck 1. Approval of Minutes of December 16, 2005 Wertzberger moved to approve the minutes of December 16, 2005 as written. Seconded by Kluesner, passed unanimously. 2. Request to Schedule Promotional Examination for the Position of Foreman Wertzberger moved to receive and file the communications and to schedule a promotional examination for the position of Foreman. He further moved that the deadline for application be established as January 30, 2006, that the examination be conducted at 6:30 p.m. on February 8, at a place to be determined, and that the list be good for two years. Seconded by Kluesner, passed unanimously. 3. Request to Schedule Promotional Examination for the Position of Equipment Operator I Wertzberger moved to receive and file the communications and to schedule a promotional examination for the position of Equipment Operator I. He further moved that the deadline for application be established as February 17, 2006, that the examination be conducted at 6:30 p.m. on March 1, at a place to be determined, and that the list be good for two years. Seconded by Kluesner, passed unanimously. 4. Request to Schedule Promotional Examination for the Position of Equipment Operator II Wertzberger moved to receive and file the communications and to schedule a promotional examination for the position of Equipment Operator II. He further moved that the deadline for application be established as February 8, 2006, that the examination be conducted at 6:30 p.m. on February 15, at a place to be determined, and that the list be good for two years. Seconded by Kluesner, passed unanimously. 5. Request to Schedule Entrance Examination for the Position of Inspector II Commissioner Wertzberger moved to schedule an entry examination for the position of Inspector II, that the exam be open to current City employees, that the examination be a take-home test and that the list be good for two years. It was further moved that Personnel Manager Randy Peck would have the authority to set the dates for application deadline and return of the examination. Seconded by Kluesner, passed unanimously. 6. Request to Schedule Promotional Examination for the Position of Maintenanceworker Wertzberger moved to receive and file the communications and to schedule a promotional examination for the position of Maintenanceworker. He further moved that the deadline for application be established as February 28, 2006, that the examination be conducted at 6:30 p.m. on March 8, at a place to be determined, and that the list be good for two years. Seconded by Kluesner, passed unanimously. 7. Request to Schedule Promotional Examinations for the Positions of Police Captain and Police Corporal Wertzberger moved to receive and file the communications and to schedule a promotional examination for the positions of Police Captain and Police Corporal. The test will consider of a written examination and an oral interview. He further moved that the deadline for application be established as March 10, 2006, that the examination be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on March 29, at a place to be determined, and that the list be good for two years. Seconded by Kluesner, passed unanimously. 8. Discussion of Process for Police Entry Examination Personnel Manager Randy Peck stated that arrangements had been made to conduct the Police Entry examination (written and agility) at Loras College and that they were looking at April 29 as the possible date. He will keep the Commission updated as plans are finalized.
