Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: 2005 Sidewalk Assessment Project - Bid #2 The second part of the 2005 Sidewalk Inspection Program consisted of inspection of 504 properties, of which 304 were notified of defects. The City received compliance from the majority of property owners and granted 42 extensions until June 1, 2006. Nine properties did not complete the replacements as required. In such situations, the policy of the City is to correct the defects and levy the construction costs against the abutting property owners in the form of a special assessment, including an administrative charge and a $50 permit fee. City Engineer Gus Psihoyos recommends that total assessments of $7,665.19 be levied against nine separate parcels of property. This project reflects areas inspected from June 11th to November 15 . DISCUSSION The second part of the 2005 Sidewalk Inspection Program consisted of inspection of 504 properties, of which 304 were notified of defects. The streets inspected consisted of Alicia, Amy, Andrea, Beacon Hill, Camilla Court, Cody, Cora, Council Hill, Donovan, Duggan, Hunters Ridge, June, Knob Hill, Lucy, Marjorie Circle, Mela, Oak Park Place, Oak Ridge, Richards, Valentine and Welu Drive. The City received compliance from the majority of the property owners who received notices. There were 42 extensions granted until June 1, 2006, and 9 properties that did not complete the replacements as required. In such situations, the policy of the City is to correct the defects and levy the construction costs against the abutting property owners in the form of a special assessment, including an administrative charge and a $50.00 permit fee. The total amount of the assessments would be $7,665.19, which is being levied against 9 separate parcels of property. RECOMMENDATION I would recommend that the City Council approve the attached final assessment schedule.
