Van Milligen, City Manager FROM: Gus Psihoyos, City Engineer SUBJECT: Catfish Creek Watershed Management Plan - Public Education Signs DATE: December 13, 2012 INTRODUCTION Dubuque hital AB- AmedcaCity '' 111! 2012 The purpose of this memo is to inform you of Catfish Creek Watershed Stream Crossings signs. There will be 9 locations where two signs will be posted throughout the City of Dubuque and additional signs located in Dubuque County. With the installation of the signs the Catfish Creek Watershed Management Authority (CCWMA) will continue to educate the community and gain public interest it the Catfish Creek Watershed Management Plan. BACKGROUND In June of 2011, the City of Dubuque entered into a 28E agreement with the Dubuque Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and Dubuque County for the purpose of preparing and implementing a Catfish Creek Watershed Management Plan. Formation of a Watershed Management Authority was determined to be advantageous for securing grant funding to develop this plan. In June of 2012, the Cities of Dubuque, Asbury, Peosta, and Centralia, Dubuque County, and the SWCD entered into a 28E agreement to create the Catfish Creek Watershed Management Authority (CCWMA) and establish a Board of Directors. The City received a $24,500 Phase 1 grant to create the CCWMA. BUDGET IMPACT The cost of the signs and installation is a group effort between the City of Dubuque and Dubuque SWCD utilizing funds acquired from the Phase 1 grant and NPDES program. ACTION TO BE TAKEN The Engineering Department is providing this information on behalf of the Dubuque SWCD and Dubuque County as part of the Catfish Creek Stream Watershed Management Plan.
