SUBJECT: Bergfeld Recreation Area Development Project
Leisure Services Manager Gil Spence is recommending acceptance of the Bergfeld
Recreation Area Development Project as completed by Drew Cook & Sons Excavating,
in the final contract amount of $506,512.99, which is $36,988.39 over the bid amount.
With contingency, the entire project cost is $12,047.16 under budget.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memorandum is to recommend that the City Council accept the
Bergfeld Recreation Area Development Project.
DISCUSSION
The Bergfeld Recreation Area Development Project has been completed by Drew Cook
and Sons, Excavating, in the final contract amount of $506,512.99. A summary of the
project costs is as follows:

Change order #1 added the sidewalk along Chavenelle Drive. Change order #2
eliminated the need for a retaining wall on the south side of the pond, added the
accessible ramp from the walkway to the rest room building, added the pedestrian
bridge by the waterfall, and added stone between the pond and walkway due to the
steep slope. Change order #3 provided for extra excavation of rock and flowable mortar
needed to address conditions discovered during excavation for the accessible ramp.
Change order #4 provided for solid rock removal for light poles and flag pole bases' and
the filter rocks needed to protect the pond from runoff. Change order #5 reduces the
contract because unit pricing was used and less work was done then specified.

RESOLUTION NO. 67-06
ACCEPTING IMPROVEMENT
WHEREAS, the contract for the Bergfeld Recreation Area Development Project has
been completed and the City Manager has examined the work and filed his certificate
stating that the same has been completed according to the terms of the contract, plans and
specifications and recommends its acceptance.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DUBUQUE, IOWA:
1. That the recommendation of the City Manager be approved and that said
improvement be and the same is hereby accepted.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Treasurer be and he is hereby directed
to pay to the contractor from the General Fund in amount equal to the amount of his
contract, less any retained percentage provided for therein.

RESOLUTION NO. 68-06
FINAL ESTIMATE
WHEREAS, the contract for the Bergfeld Recreation Area Development Project has
been completed and the Engineer has submitted his final estimate showing the cost
thereof including the cost of estimates, notices and inspection and all miscellaneous costs;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DUBUQUE, IOWA:
Section 1. That the cost of said improvement is hereby determined to be
$506,512.99, and the said amount shall be paid from the General Fund of the City of
Dubuque, Iowa.
