Dear Mayor Buol:
The purpose of this letter is to notify you that the Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid
Waste Agency's Board of Directors wishes to withdraw the rezoning request considered
by the Dubuque City Council at its May 16, 2005 meeting.
At the noted meeting ten months ago, the City Council considered the Agency's request
that forty-eight (48) acres of the Agency's property along U.S. Highway 20 be rezoned
from AG to L1. The purpose of the rezoning request was to facilitate the construction of
a new light industrial facility by a private developer. The new facility was to have served
as the new base of operations for the Agency's largest customer. At your May meeting,
the City Council tabled the Agency's request pending more information regarding the
development.
Unfortunately, the Agency has since been unable to provide the requested information,
due to its customer's lack of interest in pursuing the project. As a result, at its March 1st
meeting, the Agency's Board of Directors voted unanimously to withdraw its May 2005
rezoning request from further consideration by the Dubuque City Council.
