It was with great joy that we heard the news that upon receipt of correspondence from
Matsui Kazumi, mayor of Hiroshima; Japan, that Dubuque is officially certified as a member of
Mayors for Peace, a group working toward the abolition of nuclear weapons by 2020. Receive
our highest praise and sincere congratulations for this step that you have taken in
representation of all of the citizens of Dubuque who desire peace in our world. As a
congregation, the Sisters of St. Francis have chosen as one of our on -going commitments the
practice of peacemaking and non - violence. We pledge to you our support as you live out a
world level collaboration, as members of Mayors for Peace, to eliminate nuclear weapons and
secure a safer environment for all of humanity.
