Minutes Environ. Steward 5 2 06 MINUTES OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP ADVISORY COMMISSION MAY 2, 2006 4:00 P.M. CITY HALL ANNEX, 1300 MAIN, CONFERENCE ROOM # 1 Mike Buelow called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Wayne Klostermann, Andrea Bixler, Joseph Suarez, Sister Mary Clare O'Toole MEMBERS ABSENT: Mike Buelow, John Nemmers, Claire Miller STAFF PRESENT: Mary Rose Corrigan, Jon Brown Mary Rose Corrigan completed the Certification of Compliance with the Iowa Open Meetings Law. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Sister Mary Clare O'Toole moved to approve the Minutes of the April 4, 2006 meeting. Wayne Klostermann seconded the motion. There was no discussion and the motion passed unanimously. TEST AGENDA: Goal setting under Commission Old Business needs to be removed due to a scheduling conflict with Cindy Steinhauser. ITEMS FROM COMMISSION: OLD BUSINESS: 1. Deer Management Program. The City Manager is recommending adding conditions to the < than 3 acre property allowance (as distributed in packet) and wanted the Commission to consider this change in their recommendation. After discussion, the Commission felt it was more important to decrease barriers for hunting, especially since the survey count increased by 77 this year. Wayne Klostermann moved to forward the original recommendation. Andrea Bixler seconded the motion. Motion passed 3 to 1. The Commission then discussed increasing the reimbursement for the deer license tags to cover the cost of the first license, $26, and possibly additional tags thereafter. Another management technique of burning prairies to decrease deer habitat was also discussed by Wayne Klostermann. It was agreed these items should be incorporated into the City Council memo and suggested for the 2007-08 plan. NEW BUSINESS: None ITEMS FROM STAFF: NEW BUSINESS: Mary Rose Corrigan asked Commissioners to check their availability for a meeting on May 10 at 4:00 p.m. to complete the goal setting process. OLD BUSINESS: None. ITEMS FROM THE PUBLIC: No one present to address the Commission. CLARIFICATION OF TASKS: Mary Rose Corrigan will prepare a memo for City Council with the Commission's recommendation for the 2006-07 Urban Deer Management Plan. NEXT MEETING DATE: June 6,2006 (or May 10, 2006 depending on availability). FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: Goal setting. ADJOURNMENT: Wayne Klostermann moved to adjourn the meeting.
