Van Milligen, City Manager FROM: Craig Nowack, Cable TV Coordinator DATE: May 5, 2006 SUBJECT: PEG Access Capital Grant Expenditure INTRODUCTION The purpose of this memorandum is to forward a recommendation from the Cable Community Teleprogramming Commission to approve a request from the City for funding from the Capital Grant for Access Equipment and Facilities. BACKGROUND As part of the new cable television franchise agreement with Mediacom, a Capital Grant for Access Equipment and Facilities was established in June 2005 with a beginning balance of $176,400. Subsequently, quarterly adjustments and interest have added $16,182.25 to the fund. Most recently, at the March 20, 2006 Council meeting, the City Council approved the Commission's recommendation for funding, a request from Mediacom for $6089. The current balance of non-appropriated funds is $27,445.20. In January, the City submitted a request to the Commission for $14,000 for a new message information system for CityChannel 8. At that time the Commission preferred waiting until April to consider this request. They have now done so and have recommended it. RECOMMENDED ACTION I respectfully request that the Commission's recommendation of the $14,000 grant be forwarded to the City Council to receive, file, and approve. Thank you. Craig Nowack CC: Cable Community Teleprogramming Commission Randy Gehl, Public Information Officer
