Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: Gateway Landscaping Project Leisure Services Manager Gil Spence is recommending acceptance of the Gateway Landscaping Project, as completed by Portzen Construction, in the final contract amount of $764,002.25, which is 2.9% over the bid amount due to change orders dealing with modifications needed to the piers for the walls on the Locust Street Connector. Spence, Leisure Services Manag~ SUBJECT: Gateway Landscaping Project INTRODUCTION The purpose of this memorandum is to recommend that the City Council accept the Gateway Landscaping Project. DISCUSSION The Gateway Landscaping Project has been completed by Portzen Construction, Inc. in the final contract amount of $764,002.25. A summary of the project costs is as follows: construction contract change order #1 change order #2 TOTAL Bid Amount $742,400.00 Final Cost $742,400.00 28,210.30 - 6.608.05 $764,002.25 $742,400.00 The final cost is 2.9 percent over the bid amount with most of the change order costs dealing with modifications needed to the piers for the walls on the Locust Street Connector. The FY 2005 and FY 2006 C.I.P. budgets contain $689,954 for this project with the remaining funds, $151,975, coming from savings from the A.Y. McDonald Park Development, Phase I Project. The following is a summary of the project costs: Estimate construction contract $742,400.00 contingency/change order 72,000.00 design fees 56.605.00 TOTAL $841,929.00 Actual $742,400.00 21,602.25 58.177.00 $822,179.25 continued Gateway Landscaping, page two ACTION STEP The action requested is that the City Council adopt the attached resolutions accepting the improvement and setting the final cost. Soence Address: 2200 Bunker Hill Rd Phone: (563) 589-4263 RESOLUTION NO. 190-06 ACCEPTING IMPROVEMENT WHEREAS, the contract for the Gateway Landscaping Project has been completed and the City Manager has examined the work and filed his certificate stating that the same has been completed according to the terms of the contract, plans and specifications and recommends its acceptance. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: 1. That the recommendation of the City Manager be approved and that said improvement be and the same is hereby accepted. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Treasurer be and he is hereby directed to pay to the contractor from the General Fund in amount equal to the amount of his contract, less any retained percentage provided for therein. Soence Address: 2200 Bunker Hill Rd Phone: (563) 589-4263 RESOLUTION NO. 191-06 FINAL ESTIMATE WHEREAS, the contract for the Gateway Landscaping Project has been completed and the Engineer has submitted his final estimate showing the cost thereof including the cost of estimates, notices and inspection and all miscellaneous costs; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. That the cost of said improvement is hereby determined to be $764,002.25, and the said amount shall be paid from the General Fund of the City of Dubuque, Iowa.
