Dear Mr. Buol,
Thank you for your ongoing investment in economic development in Northeast
Iowa. Your direction and leadership continues to make all of our area
communities stronger. Attracting strong industry and supporting all of our
citizens in contributing to our economy depends on diverse leadership.
In order to offer people Who want to make Northeast Iowa the place Where they
will raise their families, we need the perception of elected officials at the city level
Who recognize the opportunities that our communities possess. This is important,
along with leadership from the chief elected officials, elected officials, businesses
and labor sectors of our community. Having a local elected city council member,
appointed to the Region 1 Workforce Investment Board helps support that
perception of the leadership Which determines how employment services are
offered in the area.
The process we have for appointment is one that is shared by County
Supervisors, in our Region (Allamakee, Chickasaw, Clayton, Delaware,
Dubuque, Fayette, Howard and Winneshiek Counties), and the Governor of
Iowa. By statute, it is necessary to have two nominations to support that
process. I am attaching a copy of the Board nomination form which I can submit
for you to share with council members Who are interested; however, we will not
be able to make this appointment without two nominations. We will then forward
the applications to the local chief elected officials, workforce board and the
Governor for approval. Thank you, again, for your leadership.
