The City Council met in special session at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, August 27, 2012 in
Room 4 at the Grand River Center, 500 Bell Street.
Present: Mayor Buol, Council Members Braig, Connors, Jones, Lynch, Resnick,
Sutton, City Manager Van Milligen, City Attorney Lindahl
Mayor Buol read the call and stated this is a special session of the City Council to
conduct the annual City Council Goal Setting.
CITY COUNCIL GOAL SETTING SESSION
FISCAL YEAR 2014

Lyle Sumek, Lyle Sumek and Associates, facilitated the FY 2014 City Council's goal
setting. Discussion was given to the challenges and opportunities for the following:
• Community Goal 1 — Economic Prosperity
• Community Goal 2 — Environmental /Ecological Integrity
• Community Goal 3 — Social /Cultural Vibrancy
Sumek facilitated Council discussion on a review of and additions to the Governance
Guidelines from the January 2008 session.
Motion by Jones to adjourn at 9:06 p.m. Seconded by Resnick. Motion carried 7 -0.
