PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, since 1989 St. Mark Community Center has existed to work with the
families of Dubuque meet some of the unmet needs of their children;
and
WHEREAS, the St. Mark Community Center's Education Committee is dedicated
to furthering the total learning experience of all children they work
with; and
WHEREAS, St. Mark Community Center will again be doing the APPLES FOR
STUDENTS program in the Dubuque community this summer during
June and July 2006. This program collects basic school supplies for
children of families who need help purchasing them. To date they
have given out more than 8,500 bags of school supplies; and
WHEREAS, local schools and service agencies have helped the St. Mark
Community Center identify the 1,100 children who need school
supplies this year, and
WHEREAS, the St. Mark Community Center is inviting the people of Dubuque to
donate money to this program so they can purchase the school
supplies in bulk from local merchants and serve more children than
they usually do.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ANN E. MICHALSKI, MAYOR PRO-TEM OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THAT THE MONTHS OF JUNE AND
JULY, 2006, BE DESIGNATED FOR THE COLLECTION OF MONEY TO BUY BASIC
SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR NEEDY FAMILIES IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE. I
SUPPORT ST. MARK COMMUNITY CENTER IN THEIR EFFORT OF HELPING OUR
CHILDREN AND ALSO URGE THE PEOPLE OF DUBUQUE TO PARTICIPATE IN
THIS WORTHWHILE PROJECT.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have
