MEMORANDUM
June 27,2006
TO: Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager
FROM, G;I D. 8''"00, Le;",e SeN;OO' Ma",e(
SUBJECT: Play Unit for AY. McDonald Park
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memorandum is to request City Council approval of using excess
funds in the Five Flags Center Renovation Project to purchase the play unit for AY.
McDonald Park.
DISCUSSION
When bids were received for construction of the second phase of AY. McDonald Park,
the low bid was $200,000 over budget. That overrun was covered, in part, by delaying
the purchase of the play unit for the park.
The FY 2007 C.I.P. budget contains $600,000 for phase III of the Five Flags Renovation
Project. This phase is to include replacement of the dasher boards, replacement of the
ice covering, and installation of a fall protection system in the arena. All three of these
items are in process, with the following bids:
Dasher boards
Ice covering
Fall protection
$ 130,066
135,900
82.173
$ 15,000
25.000
$ 348,139
Design
Contingency
40.000
$ 388,139
This would leave a balance of $211 ,861 in this project. My request is to take $125,000
of this balance to fund the play unit for AY. McDonald Park. If we order the play unit by
early July I think we can have it installed by September 15th, date of the park
dedication.

If approval is given, the transfer of funds from the Five Flags Renovation Project to the
A.Y. McDonald Park Project would be included in the first FY 2007 budget amendment.
ACTION STEP
The action requested is that the City Council approve the request to transfer $125,000
from the Five Flags Center Renovation Project to the A.Y. McDonald Park Project to
allow for purchase of the play unit for this project.
