City Clerk Kevin Firnstahl convened the meeting at 3:32 p.m. and provide handouts
providing the Task Force with information they requested about the number of standing
meetings the City Council attends and the wage increases received by non - bargaining
until City employees since 2006.
Task Force Member discussion included:
• increased high public expectations of the Council,
• increasing time commitment of the City Council,
• leadership skills and roll
• additional / unquantifiable duties required of Council positions,
• comparisons with other Iowa cities:
o state -wide Council salaries,
o the Dubuque community's high quality of life,
o notable economic progress,
• the taxpayers' perspective,
• no salary increase since 2006,
• the Council's role and responsibility in Dubuque's state, national and
international presence and reputation.
The Task Force discussed several salary options, reached consensus on a
recommendation, and directed the City Clerk to draft a letter for placement on an
upcoming Council agenda following signature by the Task Force.
The meeting adjourned at 4:03 p.m.
