SUBJECT: 7th and White Streets Sanitary Sewer Manhole Replacement Project

Through the informal bid process for public improvements, the 7th and White Streets
Sanitary Sewer Manhole Replacement Project was awarded on May 3, 2013, to Top
Grade Excavating, in the amount of $58,657.50.
City Engineer Gus Psihoyos recommends that the award for the 7th and White Streets
Sanitary Sewer Manhole Replacement Project be officially recorded in the minutes of
the City Council.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

The purpose of this memorandum is officially record in the minutes of the City Council the award
of the 7th and White Streets Sanitary Sewer Manhole Replacement Project.
BACKGROUND
This project calls for the reconstruction of two manholes of approximately 21' deep and the
replacement of the 27" VCP between the manholes with 30" DIP.
DISCUSSION
On May 3, 2013 informal bids were received in the amounts of:
Top Grade Excavating
McDermott Excavating
Portzen Construction
$58,657.50
$62,073.75
$111,015.00
Based on Iowa Code § 384.103 and § 364.12(3)(c), and Iowa Code, Section 26.14, through the
informal bid process for public improvements, this project was awarded on May 3, 2013 to Top
Grade Excavating of Epworth, IA, in the amount of $58,657.50.
BUDGET
Funding for this project is proposed to be from CIP 7101638 — Street Program Related Sanitary
Sewer.
REQUESTED ACTION
I respectfully request in accordance with the above codes the 7th and White Streets Sanitary
Sewer Manhole Replacement Project award be officially recorded in the minutes of the City
Council.
