WHEREAS, the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps is celebrating their 50t" anniversary this summer,
having been founded in 1963 as the Legion -Aires by the Dubuque American Legion
Post; and
WHEREAS, over the past 50 years, over 2,500 young people have participated in the Colts, where
they have learned life lessons about hard work, risk taking, integrity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, the Colts organization sponsors not only the world -class and world- ranked Colts, but
also the Colts Cadets, two steel drum ensembles and a summer music camp at
Prescott Elementary School and the Colts Summer Band Program and is a partner in
education with the Dubuque Schools instrumental programs; and
WHEREAS, the organization creates an economic impact of over $3.5 million per year in Dubuque
and the annual Music on the March and other local events provide entertainment for
thousands of Dubuque residents while bringing hundreds of visitors to Dubuque each
year; and
WHEREAS, the Colts represent Dubuque and the State of Iowa to over 200,000 spectators annually,
and before the world during the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington DC.
NOW, THEREFORE, 1, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, ON BEHALF OF THE
CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY RECOGNIZE 2013 AS
"THE COLTS DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS 50T" ANNIVERSARY YEAR"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AND THANK THEM FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO THE
DUBUQUE AND REGIONAL COMMUNITIES.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my
hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of
Dubuque to be affixed this 15th day of July, 2013.
